Photographer Louis Dazy and tattoo artist Delphie Chu recently turned their dream into reality by collaborating with yellowpop to create their own neon sign titled Blow My Heart. We caught up with the two artists to learn a little more about their work and the philosophy behind their neon design.

What is your background? How long have you been working together?

We both worked as art directors in advertising agencies before starting what we do today. I started photography five years ago and Delphie started tattooing three years ago. We have been working together since we met about a year and a half ago. We knew we had the same vision and wanted to start creating things together. Both of our arts are heavily influenced by surrealism, so it was obvious that we had to do something with it.

Could you tell us a little bit about being a tattoo artist? How does it feel to know that people will have your art on their skin for the rest of their lives?

As much as I love digital art, I felt the need to start working in another deeper, more personal medium. Tattoos also allow me to interact socially much easier and I love the fact that I can work with people on a project they have in mind so they can see it become real. It's even more fascinating when they get it tattooed on their skin.

What made you decide to take up photography? What emotions and feelings are you trying to convey through this technique?

I started photography five years ago, just as I was getting bored with my job. I needed a new way to be creative outside of the office, so for starters, it was a new way for me to document my life and create memories. Soon after, I really got into it and felt the need to create visual stories. I love the fact that everyone can feel and imagine something different just by looking at one of my photos, it's fascinating how they can come up with so many different interpretations of my work. I guess as long as my pictures make them feel something, I'm happy!

Why do you like working with neon in your work?

Neon lights are so cool and allow us to mix our work. We love working with different types of lighting, especially because we love the pop and retro aesthetic.

Why was designing your own neon sign one of your dreams?

Working together on a new medium, especially a neon sign, was super exciting for us. We are 90's kids at heart, creating our own neon sign is truly a dream come true. The 10 year olds in us are so proud!

How did the process go with yellowpop?

Everything went great, once the design was done, we just had to send it in and you did everything else, a really amazing job on both the neon sign and the customer service!

What will you do with your sign?

Elle est actuellement suspendue juste au-dessus de notre lit et nous l'allumons tous les soirs ! C'est vraiment cool, merci encore <3
