We've selected a list of classic movies to watch that we think are largely inspired by neon. You may have noticed that neon lights are very present in movies because they allow for striking cinematography and strong visual statements.
So, without further ado, here are some of our favorite movies with neon signs - grab your popcorn and get inspired! You could turn your favorite movie quote into a neon sign. Or give your favorite character the glow they've always deserved. Harry Potter's scar. Wonder Woman's whip. And even the eyes of the Terminator....

Skyfall (Sam Mendes)

Sam Mendes' Skyfall blew away box office numbers around the world when it was released in 2012. One particularly iconic scene takes place in Shanghai, where James Bond confronts Patrice amidst an epic wall of glass, neon lights and LED screens. Cinematographer Roger Deakins made perfect use of the neon jellyfish (pictured above) to give the scene an eerie, futuristic feel. Check out the scene here!

Lost in translation (Sofia Coppola)

Tokyo has always had an affinity for neon lights and Sofia Coppola's film, Lost in Translation, which is set in the megacity, is filled with scenes with neon lights. The film tells the story of two strangers, Bob and Charlotte, who meet and seem to fall in love with each other in a foreign country. They are drawn to each other in the chaos of Tokyo, but discover a sense of belonging in each other's company.

Enter the void (Gaspar Noé)

Enter the void is an immersive film that allows the audience to enter the sensory world and experiences of its characters, directly into the void between life and death. Set in Tokyo, the film features many neon-lit scenes that accentuate the psychedelic atmosphere of the story.

A Star Is Born (Bradley Cooper)

One of the first scenes in Bradley Cooper's A Star is Born is Ally Campano (Lady Gaga) singing La Vie en Rose in a club. This is the first time Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) sees her and from there they spend the evening together. Years later, while they are living together, a photo of their house shows a neon "La Vie en Rose" hanging in their kitchen.

Moulin Rouge (Baz Luhrmann)

When you think of Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge, a few things probably come to mind. In the first (after the dancing, singing and a young Ewan McGregor) is the abundance of red neon. The film is entirely Parisian cabaret themed and almost every scene offers a neon feast for the eyes. A not-to-be-missed love story with Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor and a medley of classic songs to blow your mind!

Blade Runner (Ridley Scott)

Blade Runner 1982 is a neo-noir set in a dystopian Los Angeles, far in the future in 2019 (!). Upon its release, the enigmatic film confused critics and audiences alike, though it is now widely recognized as a cult classic. The story follows a former police officer who has been tasked with tracking down a dangerous group of android fugitives who have both the intelligence and appearance of humans.

The Mask (Chuck Russell)

This hilarious '90s classic sees good guy Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) stumble upon a mask that represents the Norse god of mischief, Loki. The mask, which colors his head a ghoulish green, turns Stanley into a romantic comic book character and sends him on a wild ride with a small band of criminals. The Coco Bongo club is one of our favorite neon lights in theaters - we just love the vintage aesthetic!

Drive movie poster

Drive (Nicolas Winding Refn)

If you like action movies, Ryan Gosling and, of course, car chases, then this may be the movie for you. In Drive, we follow the journey of a mysterious man known as Driver (Ryan Gosling), a stuntman and mechanic in Hollywood by day and a car driver for criminals by night. Drive has inspired fans to create their own posters like the one above, which draws on the film's neon-themed aesthetic.
We hope these pieces have given you some inspiration. If you're in the mood to create a neon sign inspired by your favorite movie, why not check out our neon customization tool and get creative!
